Snowboarding like a pro...

We woke up to this view from our window

Morning

before heading to breakfast in the main dining room, and this was the view that greeted us.

Wow

After some toast and cereal, we went back to our room and geared up before heading out.

We caught the bus outside the hotel, then walked across the Bourke St run to the ski school (the lifts hadn't opened yet so not many were going down the slopes). There was a little mix up with our lesson, as they had us down for skiing lessons today instead of snowboarding, but was rectified pretty quickly. Our instructor was Alex, from Georgia in the USA, and it was his first season on Mt Buller. He was really friendly and got us going in no time.

We started with some one foot slides for a while and progressed to the bunny slopes via the magic carpet and strapped both feet in and started doing some heel slides, with a bit of help from Alex.

After an hour on the bunny slope, we took a water break then made our way further down the slope where we practiced some of our moves, before jumping on the Blue Bullet chairlift.

We both got on OK, but kinda stacked it into each other getting off.

After sorting ourselves out, we swapped between making arcs while doing toe slides and then with heel slides. Alex was trying to get me doing J turns - which gets you starting to link turns - and I managed to do a few starting heel side which was cool.

By the time we got to the bottom our lesson was up so we said goodbye to Alex and we headed to lunch.

We grabbed a couple of burgers from the burger place next to George's Ski Rental then headed back on the chairlift on our own, and I even linked a full S shape turn together so was pretty happy.

We were pretty sore - learning to snowboard involves you being on your bum or your knees for a lot of the day, and you really use your calves and feet muscles a lot, so we caught the chairlift back which dropped us off about 50m away from our hotel.

We headed inside and swapped our gear over in preparation for tomorrow's ski lesson, and put out all our gear to dry before heading down to the village supermarket.

Looking cool Just plain cold

While buying a few things we ran into our instructor who also works at the supermarket who gave me a high 5 for linking my turns - lol.

We decided on an early dinner and to rest our legs so went to Pat's and had a few small pizzas before heading back to the Arlberg.

Dinner Yum
