More stars, sightseeing and shopping...

It is so hot and humid in Hong Kong that we have gone through all our clothes so it was off to drop our clothes off at the laundry first thing this morning.

We then caught the train to Sham Shui Po to go to a 1 starred Michelin restaurant - Tim Ho Wan. It is just a small dim sum place, but is supposed to be good.

We got off the train and walked a few blocks to Tim Ho Wan, and although I had heard of long waits of over an hour, we waited all of 2 mins before going in. Initially we grabbed the Cantonese menu, but a nice guy waiting gave us the English version.

Order form

Inside was a very busy, crammed dim sum place, but instead of trolleys going around you write everything on the order form and hand it to one of the staff and then you just wait until your food arrives.

Lots of people

There were lots of people taking photos of their food, of themselves, of the restaurant - so I fitted in perfectly.

Tea for two

Lunch was good and cheap, but the dim sum we had on Saturday with Steph was tastier.

We wandered past lots of little shops on our way back to the train station, trying to find some Mahjong cards for Mum, but none could be found.

We hadn't yet caught the ferry during our stay yet, so we caught the train over to Central then caught the Star Ferry back (for $2.5HKD) to Harbour City. We were on the upper deck, and it was a really pleasant way of crossing the Harbour.

We then wandered for half an hour before heading to The Peninsula for High Tea.

The Peninsula

We arrived just after 2pm, and there was a pretty long line already. We joined the end of it and did some people watching while we slowly made our way to the head of the line.

After being shown to our table we decided on our teas and then enjoyed the next few hours of eating and drinking and soaking in the atmosphere.

Uh oh

Once we were done, we picked up our laundry on the way back to the hotel, but my only pair of socks seem to have been misplace :/ Oh well.

We rested our feet in the room again, before heading back to Harbour City shopping centre, where we looked and shopped for a while - I bought a tshirt and Ben bought some shoes.

Our next stop was dinner nearby, at another 1 starred Michelin restaurant - Din Tai Fung. We went and you had to get a number then watch the tv screen until it appears. This was only a 5 minute wait before we headed inside.

We marked our order form and then waited for it to arrive. We chose xiao long bao, pan fried wontons, sticky rice and pork bun, pork and vegetable wontons with spicy sauce. Everything was really delicious and it was almost like we were in Melbourne at Hutong because we ordered pretty much the same dishes as what we do there.

After dinner and a quick walk back to the hotel, including a detour to the Mira Mall, it was time to pack and get ready for our next adventure - Singapore!

Farewell Hong Kong - it was fun!
