All over the town...
Today we headed to Sheung Wan first thing for breakfast and coffee at Cupping Room. Ben was happy that he found somewhere that does good coffee.
We walked around the area a little bit then trained it back to hotel before going out on an antibiotics search. Ben had been feeling a bit off and thanks to webMD we went in search of a solution. 3 pharmacies later and we thought we were out of luck, but I popped into one in Nathan Rd and they were happy to give us what we wanted without a prescription, so that worked out well.
Back at the hotel it was time to get ready for Lung King Heen, a 3 starred dim sum restaurant at the Four Seasons hotel. We caught the train to Central then walked through the underground and up through a fancy shopping centre and made our way to the 4th floor of the Four Seasons hotel.
When I made the booking they said they could only fit us in at 2.30pm, and last orders were at 3pm so we would pretty much have to go in, sit down and order and wouldn't be able to order any more food. I had asked if there were any cancellations to let me know as we wanted to be able to go earlier but we were told it was not possible - even when I confirmed our booking the day before and asked they said it wasn't possible. So it was a bit surprising when we turned up and there was only about 5 tables with people on them. We probably should have just rocked up and we could have eaten anytime.
We were shown to a table, and my handbag was shown the due deference it deserves with its own handbag stool.
For lunch we went with most of the Chef's recommendations, plus Shanghaianese dumplings (xiao long bao). We ordered at about 2.40pm and 2mins later another waiter came round letting us know it was last orders - not exactly the 3pm I had been told on the phone.
Our food came out pretty quickly, and all of it was pretty tasty, but wasn't mind blowing. Definitely not what we expected, especially when you compare it to other 3 starred places we have been to.
On the other hand, it was ridiculously cheap for a 3 star, with lunch costing around $120AUD.
Side note - yesterday at lunch with Steph, Ben saw someone walking around with an iron in the restaurant. And today they were doing the same thing (whatever "that thing" was - we couldn't figure it out)!
We also had dessert at the end and tried a few new dishes - sesame custard and also sugar cane jelly with coconut. Both were good, but not amazing.
By this time we were the only people left in the place and it felt like they wanted to get rid of us, so we were in and out within an hour.
We then walked around the fancy shopping centre attached to the Four Seasons before heading to the train and on the hunt for a store.
Ben reads a magazine called Monocle and they have a store in Wan Chai, so we made our way there.
They had a cool range of little items from pens to wooden boxes and socks. We ended up buying a few small items and then headed back to the hotel for a rest from all the traipsing across Hong Kong we had been doing.
The last few days in Hong Kong I have been walking about 15,000 steps a day and I am finding my knee gets sore at the end of the day, as does Ben. But that did not deter us for long. We went out for the evening to traipse even further around Hong Kong.
First stop - Mira Mall - which is attached to the hotel. I checked out a 6ixty 8ight and Uniqlo (both clothing stores) while Ben perused Qlip (a stationary store). A few purchases later and a trip to our room to drop them off and we headed to Stanley Markets. We walked up there and had a wander through the markets, but nothing really jumped out at me.
We hadn't been game enough to try the street food at the markets so we headed back to the hotel and got a few nibbles and drinks in the lobby bar, while watching a repeat of a soccer game.
I had a "Lusher" which was basically a frozen drink with ginger and other juices - so tasty I had 2!
We had a mini burger each, and shared some onion rings and calamari and that was plenty.
In Hong Kong the days seem to be long and by the time I headed to bed I was at 23,000 steps and my feet were happy to be rested.
