It's a long day after all...
Today we had a lot planned - Univeral Studios and The Tippling Club for dinner.
We only had one day in Singapore and we decided to go to Universal Studios - I bought tickets online ahead of time, but as it was a weekday we could have easily bought them there.
However, we decided to add on a Universal Express Unlimited pass to our ticket. All of the reviews that I had read said that it was a waste of money unless you went on a weekend, but they were mainly from people who live in Singapore (that have easy access to the park anytime they want) so we bought it anyway. And we were so glad we did. In the morning it wasn't so bad in terms of lines as we arrived when the park opened, but within 2 hours most rides had queues of 30-60 minutes whereas our line usually had either no queue or 4 people in front of us.
When we entered the park we decided to go the "wrong way around the park" to avoid the crowds.
First ride was Madagascar's Crate Adventure - no wait and just a pretty tame boat ride, like "It's a Small World" but less annoying.
We then walked through Far Far Away land and to Jurassic Park where we went on the Canopy Flier - where you sit and your legs dangle - it was a pretty quick ride, but a nice view and a fun ride(and was Bens favourite) and while we were in Jurassic Park we saw that the Rapids ride was not open until 11am.
We then headed through to Ancient Egypt and went on The Mummy ride (once again the first of many on this ride). This was my favourite ride of the day. You get in a car and you go through tombs and and you try to "find the book" and "destroy Imhotep" - a lot of it is in the dark, with fire and little water spurts.
On one of our goes on The Mummy there was a Mum with a boy and a teenage girl in the row behind us in the Express queue. The girl chucked a bit of a sad because we had to wait about 30 seconds to get on the ride. Once on, all I heard were these bloodcurdling/distressed screams and I thought that whoever that was needed to tone it down - the ride wasn't that scary. When I turned around the boy was fine but the girl was sobbing so hysterically it was crazy. Later on in the day we saw them again in the Shrek 4D show and she was performing in a similar manner - to Shrek - lols.
We then went over to the Transformers ride, which is a 3D type ride, and then to Sesame Street, where we went on Elmo's Spaghetti Space Chase.
We then went on the "Lights, camera, action" soundstage show. By the time this was finished it was time to head back to the Rapids in Jurassic Park. When we first entered the park our first stop was to buy rain ponchos - specifically for this ride. So we put on our ponchos and walked to the head of the queue and got on the ride. No-one else had ponchos on and depending on where you sat some people on the ride got fairly wet.
After this we went back to Far Far Away land and went on the "mini-coaster", which is similar to the roller coaster at Adventure World, but smoother and better. We also rode Dino-Soarin' in Jurassic Park which was like a Dumbo ride, but with pterodactyls.
No trip is complete without a ride on a merry go round - and this time Ben even came on with me!
By this time we had gone on all rides once, so the rest of the day was spent riding The Mummy (at least 6 more times), the Canopy flier (at least 6 more times), Jurassic Park rapids (at least twice), Transformers and the mini-coaster.
In between the rides I also met Grover!
We ended the day with 2 more rides on The Mummy followed with 3 rides on the Canopy Flier. We left the park 15mins before closing (6.45pm) and went to the longest queue of the day - the taxi queue. Half an hour later we were on our way back to our hotel - luckily only a 10 min ride as we had a dinner reservation at 8pm.
After a quick shower and change we headed out to The Tippling Club - a short 10 min walk from the hotel. We decided on the Degustation, and we were happy that we hadn't eaten much during the day.
It was a very tasty meal - most of the dishes worked well, although the lobster and pork belly combination just didn't work for me. They were OK seperately, but together they didn't meld well. For a nice, and somewhat expensive, night out I would definitely go here. Loved the dessert, looked like a sponge cake but was more like an aero/icecream mix.
Today was a very long day and we had a lot of fun - next stop - Lombok!
