Shannnon

Arzak - our last Spanish star...

Turns out I am getting a cold :( What else to cheer me up but by having the most awesome breakfast ever?

Chocolate Pan

There is a bit of a festival here, with people hitting others with balloons, wearing weird heads, and big cowbells on peoples bottoms. But its all good.

Bells Bells

Today was our last day of bookings in Spain, still in San Sebastian, at Arzak.

Once again, tasting menu, even though we had both had enough of big meals for this week.

We had some crazy starters, as you can see here.

Some ham and tomato with “smoke” and kabraroka pudding with figs.

Smoke Pudding

Some fish stew, and corn crispy things with mushrooms.

Assortments

Also some marinated tuna with strawberry.

Fish

These were all tasty, not too fishy, and visually looked pretty awesome.

We then had these weird thin cones, of coffee and tea flavour, with a filling of cromlech and onion. You basically slid your spoon underneath between the cone and plate, and tipped over so the filling was now in the cone (in your hands) as you ate. Tasty.

Cones

A lobster salad was next, which was fresh and tasty.

Lobster

Next was a cool runny egg which was delicious and orange, with crunchy bits on top.

I had the smoked cinnamon and tuna and Ben had monkfish (although we spilt everything and shared). Mine looked simple but tasted awesome, Ben’s looked complex and still tasted awesome.

Smokey Tuna Monkfish

Up next, lamb for me and pidgeon for Ben (shared again). Both were very tasty again.

lamb Pidgeon

And now desserts, or the pre desserts.

We shared again , but overall we had a Strawberry soup with chocolate marbles and basil sorbet - these were exploding chocolate balls in your mouth - Chocolate marbles with a vanilla sauce and eggplant.

Soupy Marbles

Pistachio and beetroot stone - cool- and Lemon explosions with a mead and fractal sauce - presentation of this was awesome.

Stone Lemon

And some chocolates to finish!

Choc

This was pretty good, but I think I still prefer Mugaritz and L’Auberge Basque.

We stayed in tonight and I slept lots - go away cold!
