Kaya toast to the max...

We were leaving Singapore at 3.45pm so we had some time in the morning to explore. And we decided to walk to a nearby place for Kaya toast.

Kaya toast is toast with coconut jam, butter, pandan and comes with soft boiled runny eggs. We headed to Tong Ah Coffee house, a few blocks from our hotel and went inside the little joint.

Tong Ah

It was very much a "local" place with very little English and no menus. Thankfully I had read up on it just before we came so we started with an Iced Kopi, Iced Milo and 2 kaya toast and 2 eggs.

Drinks Ummm - how do we eat these?

It was all delicious, but we didn't really know what we were doing and how to eat them. In the meantime other people came in and we saw how they cracked their egss into a plate, mushed them up, then dipped the toast bits into the eggs. So we decided to have a second round.

Unfortunately something was lost in translation as instead of getting the same thing again, we got double!

Round 2 Fight!

Oh well, they were delicious and filling and doubled as both our breakfast and lunch. Would totally go here again next time we are in Singapore.

Humpty Dumpty

We headed back to the hotel to get ready and went to the airport for our flight to Lombok. Unfortunatly no exit row seats and we couldn't get any closer to the front of the plane (important for Lombok as the line through Immigration takes forever).

SilkAir stream TV and Movies to your mobile devices so we both followed the instructions and I spent the next few hours watching "Taken 2".

We landed in Lombok around 6.30pm but by the time we went through Immigration and Customs it was 7.30pm! They only have 2 Immigration officers and it took forever. Thankfully the resort transfer dude was there waiting for us. The crowds tonight were crazy compared to when we came last - we had to push our way through them to get to the car.

It took another hour to get to the hotel, and by this time it was late-ish so we settled on some wedges in our hotel room before hitting the hay, but not before welcome drinks.
