Churros - and road trip to San Sebastian and doppelgangers...
So we woke up, checked out and headed to Chocolat, my favourite churros place. This time the churros were fresh and the place was packed. What’s worse, it was packed with Australians :(
After this - we just drove to San Sebastian.
Last time we were here we stayed at this little pensione in the heart of old town (about a 30 sec walk away from Calle 31 de Agosto) so we decided to stay there again. It is up 52 stairs so helps give you a bit of a work out, and is so close to the best food area.
After dumping our stuff we headed out to try find some old favourites. After walking around for about 2 minutes who do we bump into? Our Mandurah doppelgangers - craziness.
After chatting to them for a while, we headed towards food. Ben and Kayla had suggested La Cuchara San Telmo and they were here about 3 week ago, so we headed there first. It was cool, but mega busy.
Then we headed to A Fuego Negro which is OK, unless you actually want to leave. Leaving means you have to pay, paying means waiting around for half an hour (not just us, lots of people) trying to get the sole barmans attention. This place was too much hassle, not worth going back to.
Next up was an oldie -Bar Martinez - a cool tapas bar with old dudes in it, and the most awesome tortilla and croquettas. We stalked a table, and grabbed us some vino tinto and txakoli (kind of like wine wine but sparkling, and they pour it out from a great height) some croquettas, tortilla and some tasty champi (mushroom) in a garlic sauce.
After this it was time to head home - all of 1 minutes walk away.
A great start to our week in San Sebastian!
