Churros, no chocolate and Paco Meralgo...
Last time in Barcelona we found a cool churros place that makes churros for you, and then a few doors down you can get a hot chocolate to dip them in. So that was the mission of the day.
Unfortunately the hot chocolate place was closed so it was just plain churros for us. Unfortunately, we ate them too fast to take many photos. If you have had churros at Chocolateria San Churros, these are about 1000 times better.
Barcelona has quite nice architecture, especially around the Gothic area, so it was nice to walk around and look at all the different buildings.
We also had some lunch at Taller de Tapas, which was OK. We were adventurous so tried grilled cuttlefish, deepfried peppers, deepfried baby squid, artichoke shavings and a few other tasty morsels.
Back to the hotel to get the car and find a laundromat. After going on a driving tour of the city we found what we were looking for. After driving in circles for half an hour, we found a car park - and laundromat time it was. At this point, we were now pros as we had used laundromats in Germany and Italy and knew the drill. This is also the place of the cheapest Coke - .60 Euros. Bargain.
Next up was dinner at Paco Meralgo, about a 45 min walk from our hotel, where we we sat at the bar in front of fresh seafood. This place was pretty cool - we tried a lot of new things here.
This was our seat at the bar.
This place was pretty cool, lots of bench seats, lots of locals, and only 1 bunch of Americans.
Razor shell clams, galacian crab, huuge scallops, tuna carpaccio - all of which were pretty tasty. My favourite was deepfried courgette flowers with mozzarella inside.
First up, all things tomato - tomato bread and gazpacho (cold tomato soup - brought back strange rellie-bash cold soup memories).
Then we had two firsts - razor shell clams and courgette flowers deep fried with mozzarella inside. The razor shell clams weren’t too bad, didn’t taste fishy, and the flowers were delicious! Crunchy on the outside, melting on the inside.
We tried the Galacian crab which was OK, but loved the tuna carpaccio - melted in your mouth.
We then had some deep fried baby squid which were delicious and only lightly fried, and seared asparagus.
For the last hour or so we had been sitting in front of the seafood bench with these awesome looking scallops - so we ordered two - and we were not dissapointed. Served in a ridiculously hot shell, these were huge and scrumptious.
Then it was time for the long walk back to the hotel. I wish I had a step counter because it would be going through the roof!
