Road trip - Valencia to Sevilla...

This was about a 7ish hour drive so we left around 9am and headed across. For some reason this area has lots of sunflowers - sunflower fields and solar panel fields. It is very strange.

Sevilla is hot. Hot hot hot. 38C hot. Did I mention it was hot?

Our hotel, NH Plaza de Armas has airconditioning, and that is probably the best thing about it. Parking is not great in Sevilla, an old town circle with streets you do not want to drive down with a wagon. Which is why we chose this hotel, parking next door (underground).

After crashing and recovering from the heat we headed out to get our bearings. I had done a bit of research on where to eat tapas, so we found 4 of those places and figured out how to walk back to the hotel from them.

We found the Cathedral nearby, and an icecream shop (which was sorely needed).

A few hours later, we retraced our steps to our first place, Zelai. This is funky looking, mainly stools at the bar with a few tables down back kinda place.

We were there early - 9.15pm ish, but we beat the rush by about 10 mins. We had a cool dude who helped us out with our Spanish, he could speak good English but when we told him we were trying to improve our Spanish he tried to speak to us mainly in Spanish, but a bit slower, and gave us two menus, one in Spanish and in English, so we could cheat when we had to.

Drinks

We started with a good staple, croquettas. These were in a tomato salsa, and were good.

Then we had veal and onions and this was tasty. Tender, full of flavour, and so cheap.

Veal

We noticed a lot of people having drinks that looked like red creaming soda, so asked what they were - tinto de verano aka summer wine. A little bit of red wine, a lot of ice and some soda or lemonade. So dos tinto de veranos it was.

Next up was foie. I have mentioned before how I love my foie, and this was absolutely delicious. I found it hard to share, but managed. It had a mango chutney on the side and was just scrumptious.

Then we had duck with manzanas (apples) and this was so full of flavour it was crazy. The duck was so soft and tender and the apples sweet and melted in your mouth.

By this time we were kinda full so it was time to head back to the hotel. How much for our dinner of 4 drinks, croquettas, veal, foie and duck? 30 Euros - unbelievably good value (we thought). Food was absolutely delicious, and everyone was friendly.

After 20 min walk we were back at our hotel - ready for our drive tomorrow to the coast.
